Job Description

Job Summary:

* Enter and successfully complete the Western Refining Maintenance Apprenticeship Program in the allotted time.
* Performs Welding design and fabrication duties as required.
* Requires ASME Section 9 certification to perform welding duties.
* This position requires a thorough knowledge of the welding and pipe fitter crafts.
* Assists the pipe fitters in the completion of daily assignments, projects and tasks as assigned or requested.

Minimum Requirements:

* High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 1-2 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 18 years of age.
* Must pass destructive weld test in 6G position.
* Must comply with OSHA Respiratory Protection guidelines and the company respiratory protection program which includes a medical evaluation and fit test to determine the ability to wear a respirator. Must be able to don appropriate respiratory equipment to protect the employee whenever respirators are required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

* Mathematical skills to add, subtract, multiply or divide for balancing or compiling figures.
* Ability to use computer to look up, retrieve, input or send data and print standard reports of spreadsheets developed by others.
* Skilled in operating various hand tools and equipment, such as saw, drill press, lathe, welding machine, backhoe, jackhammer, paint gun and forklift required.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills to fill out routine forms and records and give, receive or exchange information with co-workers.
* Interpersonal communication skill to work effectively with others in order to coordinate activities and complete assigned tasks.
* Ability to plan and schedule activities usually completed within one week.
* Ability to follow specific step-by-step instructions, standard procedures, and operating guidelines.
* Ability to identify routine problems and situations that require a decision.
* Ability to provide a high level of customer service to employees by responding to requests in a courteous manner and on a timely basis.
* Ability to work effectively with close and/or general supervisory guidance.
* Must meet company insurability requirements.
