Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The St. Paul Park Refinery has a full-time, exempt opening for a Turnaround (TAR) Superintendent reporting to the Maintenance Department Manager.  The TAR Superintendent’s main objective is to support refinery operations by managing efficient planning, scheduling, execution, and closeout of turnaround and shutdown activities to achieve business objectives in compliance with refining standards. 

 

JOB DUTIES:

  • Manages a 10 year site turnaround plan and schedule.

  • Develops, manages, and is accountable for overall turnaround budget.

  • Manages, mentors, and develops turnaround staff.Initiates selection, promotion, and corrective action through performance management process.

  • Chairs the Turnaround Steering Team committee and coordinates with multiple refinery functions (operations, reliability, inspection, engineering, etc.) to ensure complete understanding of work scope and compliance with turnaround work process.

  • Ensures development of effective Safety and Environmental strategies for incident free turnarounds.

  • Drives plant alignment on Turnaround objectives by communicating necessary activities and/or issues to owners and sponsors.

  • Develops contracting strategy and implementation of contracts for turnarounds.

  • Manages turnaround field execution while controlling and optimizing resources (materials, personnel, contractors) as necessary to meet plan.Reports status, execution benchmarks, and KPIs to management on regular basis and ensures milestones are met.

  • Manages tracking and reports on turnaround and maintenance performance metrics.

  • Organizes and facilitates the turnaround event post investment review, assesses effectiveness and develops key strategies for continuous improvement of overall turnaround performance.

  • Participates in turnaround and maintenance work process networks. Captures and shares "lessons learned" and best practices.

     

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • 5+ years refinery or petrochemical maintenance, engineering project, or turnaround experience

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)

  • Budget development experience

  • Highly organized and efficient

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent problem solving skills

  • Ability to work in a team environment and proven ability to lead people

  • Self-motivated individual who takes initiative to get results and seeks opportunities for additional responsibilities

     

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field

  • 7+ years refinery or petrochemical maintenance or turnaround experience in supervisory role or project/construction management

  • Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project proficiency in scheduling and planning

  • Strong technical knowledge of refinery maintenance processes and craft repair technologies

  • Ability to communicate effectively to all levels in the organization

  • Proven ability to lead, engage, and energize people
