Job Description

The St. Paul Park Refinery has openings for a Refinery Utility Operator. This is an hourly paid, full-time position and is represented by a collective bargaining agreement. The work schedule is a 12 hour shift that includes working a rotating, swing-shift schedule on days, nights, weekends, and holidays for the 24/7 operating refinery. Overtime may also be required. 

Starting pay for this position is $28.80 with the potential to earn up to $44.64! JOB DUTIES: 

  • Monitoring and troubleshooting the process units
  • Equipment Isolation and preparation for maintenance activities 
  • Opening and closing valves under pressure and within precise processes
  • Writing safe work permits to communicate working conditions for maintenance and contractors
  • Monitoring the tank levels and transfers; tank gauging
  • Executing all work in a safe and environmentally responsible manner
  • Continuously improves one’s knowledge of the equipment and keeps up with changes in individual process systems
  • Monitors and cares for equipment to ensure on-going integrity and uninterrupted process operations
  • Proactively troubleshoots equipment and generates work requests as needed
  • Safely prepares equipment for maintenance
  • Ensures that self and other follow safety and environmental practices
  • Reports safety deficiencies and takes appropriate corrective or mitigating action
  • Participates in housekeeping activities
  • Reviews and assists in updating operating procedures to ensure safe, reliable and environmentally sound operations
  • Works with the console and/or Shift Foreman to make field adjustments in response to changing process conditions to prevent future problems
  • Safely responds to abnormal situations
  • Effectively communicates field conditions to appropriate personnel
  • Safely collects samples to proactively identify product quality issues
  • Ensures proper lineup for unit production

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two or more years of experience with mechanical or technical processing in a heavy equipment or heavy industrial setting
  • Two or more years of work experience in a safety sensitive environment (hazardous chemicals/equipment)
  • Effective and respectful verbal communication skills with the ability to follow written plans and procedures
  • Excellent attendance and safe work history
  • Ability to walk extensively in the refinery
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and wear self-contained breathing apparatus
  • Ability to work with hand tools
  • Ability to work 12 hour rotating shifts including nights/weekends, holidays and overtime
  • Willing and able to participate in an emergency response
  • Ability to work indoor and outdoor in all types of weather
  • Must be able to be issued a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) card, pass a drug screen and pass a background investigation
  • Must be able to commit to 4 hours for pre-employment requirements   

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MN State Boiler Operator License
  • OSHA 10 Certification
  • Ability to quickly learn industrial processes and equipment
  • Computer skills including typing, use of Microsoft Suite and navigation of websites
  • Demonstrated ability to grow in an organization, especially into leadership positions

    

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be able to be respirator fit tested
  • Must be able to routinely lift 50 lbs.  
  • Must be able to climb 75 feet vertically and horizontally
