Job Description

Position Description Summary:

The Machinist provides capable and skilled support in all aspects of the machinist craft. Includes craft knowledge of pump repair, valve repair, compressor repair, and operating machine shop equipment. Performs work in an environment with extremely strict safety and work requirements.

Principal Accountabilities:

Performs these essential craft functions and more:

- Pump troubleshooting and repair: single and multi-stage
- Centrifugal and reciprocating compressor troubleshooting and repair
- Valve repair
- Turbine troubleshooting and repair
- Relief valve repair
- Rotating equipment performance testing
- Rotating equipment redesign and installations
- Coupling repair

- Lathe

- Mills

Responsible for safely operating - Machine shop equipment:

- Machines, balancing machines, drill presses, hand tools, etc
- Rotating equipment parts identification
- Knowledge in oxy/acetylene set-up.

- Use of measuring instruments: dial indicators, micrometers, telescopic gauges, etc.
- Other miscellaneous machinery support as needed.

Familiar with machinery and rotating equipment drawings.

Familiar with isometric and structural drawings.

Knowledge and Skills:

- High school diploma or equivalent required.

- Minimum 5 years' experience as a Machinist required.

- Oil refinery experience (4 yr. Machinery Apprenticeship program) preferred.

- Demonstrate familiarity with basic maintenance practices, engineering and process design of a refinery or similar facility.

- Must have a proven safety record and be familiar with OSHA requirements for the trade.

- Knowledge and understanding of refinery safety requirements and safe work practices.

- Demonstrated incident free safety performance. Demonstrated safety leader and advocate.

- Computer application experience with Microsoft office products such as Word & Excel preferred.

Other requirements:

Valid driver's license required.

On occasion will be required to work 12 hour shifts.

Must be able to work weekends and or holidays.

Job duties include wearing respirator protection- No beards or goatees.

Physical Requirements

Seeing: Must be able to read reports and use computer.

Hearing: Must be able to hear well enough to communicate with co-workers.

Talking: Must be able to express and exchange ideas by means of spoken words.

Sitting: Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.

Standing/Walking/Mobility: Must be able to stand and walk distances of up to ¼ mile.

Bending/Reaching/Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling: Must be able to bend, reach and stoop. The employee is occasionally required to work in confined spaces and vessels as well as lift up to 55 pounds from the knuckle to waist height and push/pull and twist a maximum of 75 pounds of force.

Fingering/Grasping/Feeling: Major portions of daily work require application of manual skills involving motor coordination and finger dexterity.

The employee occasionally climbs stairs up to 75 feet, and works at heights of 150 feet above the ground. Balance must be excellent.

This is a safety sensitive position: will have to pass a physical fitness test, drug screening, and background check. In addition, they will be subject to random drug testing.

Must comply with OSHA Respiratory Protection guidelines and the company respiratory protection program which includes a medical evaluation and fit test to determine the ability to wear a respirator. Must be able to don appropriate respiratory equipment to protect the employee whenever respirators are required.

Work Environment

* Work is typically performed outside in an oil refinery setting.
* Analyzing and troubleshooting will require trips into the refinery setting. Proper PPE and training will be supplied and adherence to all safety and operational procedures will need to be followed.
* Heavy exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and flammable substances.
* Light exposure to electrical shock, bright or dim lighting, wet or humid conditions, and extreme heat (non-weather).
* Light exposure to extreme heat and cold, moving mechanical parts, loud noise, and vibrations.
* Light exposure to outdoor weather conditions including wind, rain, snow and heat.
* During unscheduled outages, work may involve assignment on nights and weekends.

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Minimum 5 years' experience as a Machinist required.

Valid driver's license required.
