Job Description

Position Description Summary:

Instrument Technician will perform maintenance (maintain, repair, calibrate) of electronic and pneumatic control systems, PLC troubleshooting, Allen Bradley, SCADA (Wonderware, control logix) systems, transmitters & switches. In addition level, flow, analyzers and any other instrument support for the refinery. Demonstrates and ensure safe work practices.

Principal Accountabilities:

* Perform troubleshoot and make mechanical repairs to:
- Process control loops
- Displacer and DP type level transmitters
- Control valves
- I/P transducers
- Electronic transmitters
- Red's and thermocouples
- Low and medium voltage distribution systems
- Control systems
- Other miscellaneous instrument and electrical system work as required
* Ability to read and Interpret isometric and structural drawings, P&ID's for maintenance.
* Able to understand and interpret process trends.
* Ensure Preventive Maintenance and Inspection Program of equipment is being performed and recorded.
* Proactive in finding and undertaking opportunities to improve maintenance management and rationalize resources across the operation.

Knowledge and Skills:

* High school diploma or equivalent and graduation from a Vocational Technical program required.
* Minimum 4 years' Industrial apprentice training or associates in Instrumentation preferred.
* Minimum 5 years' refinery or chemical plant experience preferred.
* Minimum 5 years' experience working with Continuous Emission Monitoring analyzer repair and maintenance preferred.
* Minimum 5 years' experience working with Gas Chromatograph analyzer repair and maintenance preferred.
* Minimum 5 years' Industrial Instrumentation experience, this would also include O2, PH, conductivity analyzer repair and maintenance preferred.
* Knowledge of manufactures and repair methods of SAAB tank level gauges, Fisher control valves, Masoneilan control valves , Magnitrol, Rosemount, Honeywell, Ametek, Thermox, Delmar.
* Must understand the need for safety on each job preformed.
* Must follow all safety procedures.
* Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with all procedures, rules and regulations.
* Computer application experience with Microsoft office products such as Word & Excel.
* Proficient writing skills.

Other requirements:

Valid driver's license required.

On occasion will be required to work 12 hour shifts.

Must be able to work weekends and or holidays.

Job duties include wearing respirator protection- No beards or goatees.

Physical Requirements

Seeing: Must be able to read reports and use computer.

Hearing: Must be able to hear well enough to communicate with co-workers.

Talking: Must be able to express and exchange ideas by means of spoken words.

Sitting: Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.

Standing/Walking/Mobility: Must be able to stand and walk distances of up to ¼ mile.

Bending/Reaching/Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling: Must be able to bend, reach and stoop. The employee is occasionally required to work in confined spaces and vessels as well as lift up to 55 pounds from the knuckle to waist height and push/pull and twist a maximum of 75 pounds of force.

Fingering/Grasping/Feeling: Major portions of daily work require application of manual skills involving motor coordination and finger dexterity.

The employee occasionally climbs stairs up to 75 feet, and works at heights of 150 feet above the ground. Balance must be excellent.

This is a safety sensitive position: will have to pass a physical fitness test, drug screening, and background check. In addition, they will be subject to random drug testing.

Must comply with OSHA Respiratory Protection guidelines and the company respiratory protection program which includes a medical evaluation and fit test to determine the ability to wear a respirator. Must be able to don appropriate respiratory equipment to protect the employee whenever respirators are required.

Work Environment

* Work is typically performed outside in an oil refinery setting.
* Analyzing and troubleshooting will require trips into the refinery setting. Proper PPE and training will be supplied and adherence to all safety and operational procedures will need to be followed.
* Heavy exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and flammable substances.
* Light exposure to electrical shock, bright or dim lighting, wet or humid conditions, and extreme heat (non-weather).
* Light exposure to extreme heat and cold, moving mechanical parts, loud noise, and vibrations.
* Light exposure to outdoor weather conditions including wind, rain, snow and heat.
* During unscheduled outages, work may involve assignment on nights and weekends.

* High school diploma or equivalent and graduation from a Vocational Technical program required.

Valid driver's license required.
