As part of the refinery Maintenance Department this position troubleshoots and maintains electrical and automation systems as well as installs, tests, and commissions new electrical installations, instrumentation, and associated equipment. This position may be responsible for supervising and training other craftsmen and working on various jobs without direct supervision.  This position must embrace positive change and be committed to advancing understanding of our systems by self-motivation and training. The ideal candidate will promote safety and will support increasing the reliability of the Refinery.  


  • Provide electrical and instrumentation support to maintain equipment and facilities in a manner that is safe

  • Participate in project planning including Drawing updates, P&ID development, and Cause & Effects development

  • Perform all duties in compliance with Safety, Health, and Environmental, applicable government regulations, and industry best practices

  • Install, troubleshoot and maintain electrical, pneumatic, process controls, and new equipment as projects dictate

  • Regularly communicate with management regarding work progress, concerns, and questions



  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Minnesota State Journeyman Electrical License

  • Ability to adjust schedule to meet business demands

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

  • Able to troubleshoot and resolve problems

  • Working knowledge of electrical one-lines, electrical schematics, and electrical prints

  • Experience working safely with voltages up to 600 volts, including using the proper associated PPE

  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word



  • Electrical Technician degree, or an Instrumentation certification from an accredited program

  • Experience working safely with voltages up to 13.8k volts and using the proper associated PPE

  • 3+ years direct experience with SCADA/PLC/Pneumatic controlled loops with the ability to troubleshoot an array of problems associated with the equipment

  • Familiarity with P & ID's, Loop Drawings, Controllers, and Digital signals

  • Broad understanding of refinery operations

  • Familiarity with Distributed Control Systems; Honeywell preferred

  • Familiarity with Equipment Monitoring; Vibration monitor and Anti-surge controls preferred

  • Familiarity with Allen Bradley Programmable Logic Controllers HMI's and Redlion HMI's

  • Familiarity with Ethernet IP, ModBus, and RS-485 communications protocols



  • Ability to climb a minimum of 75 feet

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 70 lbs

  • Ability to apply a pushing and pulling force in excess of 50 lbs

  • Ability to work at heights

  • Ability to work in confined spaces

  • Ability to work in various outdoor weather conditions
