Job Description

General Job Summary:

The Corrosion Engineer ensures pressure equipment integrity and safety by fostering corrosion awareness, developing, monitoring and mitigation plans; provide technical support on all corrosion issues.

Major Job Tasks:

* Supports the corrosion management program (RBI Corrosion Reviews, IOW studies, CCDs); supports the Plant inspector on corrosion and material selection issues. Keeping abreast of corrosion problems in the industry. Contact for Plant Engineers and Process Engineers on corrosion and material selections issues.
* Support setting requirements for inspection strategies for fixed equipment, particularly for environmental service cracking and metallurgical damage mechanisms. Assures appropriateness of current materials selection for fixed equipment throughout the facility.
* Support engineering on fixed equipment area.
* Develops and/or reviews certain critical maintenance and operations procedures (e.g. equipment cleaning, soda ash washing, etc.).
* Focal point for plant corrosion data gathering and analysis.
* Coordinates all material failure investigations performed by outside laboratories.
* Monitors Specialty Chemical applications for corrosion mitigation plant-wide.
* Provides materials and fabrication-related technical support for projects.
* Supports reviews of turnaround worklists.
* Supports the cathodic protection program and the plant's MOC process.
* Perform Level II FFS and Support Level III FFS.
* Other duties as assigned by Management.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

* Knowledge and understanding of process units and equipment is required.
* Strong technical knowledge of corrosion, corrosion mechanisms, environmental assisted cracking and materials.
* Detailed knowledge of relevant NACE/API/ASME/ISO codes and standards.
* Strong understanding of materials, failure mechanisms, and corrosion issues as they pertain to the oil & gas industry.
* Capable of selecting and designing of corrosion management, corrosion mitigation and monitoring programs.
* Excellent interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills with a well developed sense of urgency.
* Knowledge and skills in business management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
* Demonstrated skill with Microsoft Office software, including Excel, Word, Access. Experience with Ultra-pipe, RBI software & systems modeling (finite element analysis) or related software preferred.

Education and Experience

* Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Metallurgical Engineering or related discipline required.
* 5 years related experience is required, preferably in a Refining or Petrochemical environment.

Physical Requirements

* Seeing: Must be able to read reports and use computer.
* Hearing: Must be able to hear well enough to communicate with co-workers.
* Talking: Must be able to express and exchange ideas by means of spoken words.
* Sitting: Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
* Standing/Walking/Mobility: Must be able to stand and walk distances of up to ¼ mile.
* Bending/Reaching/Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling: Must be able to bend, reach, stoop
* Fingering/Grasping/Feeling: Major portions of daily work require application of manual skills involving motor coordination and finger dexterity.
* The employee will be required to lift and carry a 25 pound file box from a floor to shoulder height.
* This is a safety sensitive position: will have to pass a physical fitness test, drug screening, and background check. In addition, they will be subject to random drug testing.
* Must comply with OSHA Respiratory Protection guidelines and the company respiratory protection program which includes a medical evaluation and fit test to determine the ability to wear a respirator. Must be able to don appropriate respiratory equipment to protect the employee whenever respirators are required.

Work Environment

* Work is typically performed both inside and outside a regular office in an oil refinery setting.
* Analysis and troubleshooting will require trips into the refinery setting. Proper PPE and training will be supplied and adherence to all safety and operational procedures will need to be followed.
* Light exposure to electrical shock, bright or dim lighting, wet or humid conditions, and extreme heat (non-weather).
* Light exposure to extreme heat and cold, moving mechanical parts, loud noise, and vibrations.
* Light exposure to outdoor weather conditions including wind, rain, snow and heat.
* During unscheduled outages, work may involve assignment to nights and weekends.

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Metallurgical Engineering or related discipline required.

5 years related experience is required, preferably in a Refining or Petrochemical environment.
